Our Studio
We take the visual output seriously — so your brand doesn't have to start from scratch.

Started from a practical question about brand ownership
Obscura Mint began in Petaling Jaya in early 2023, when a small group of people working across brand strategy, visual production, and AI research started asking the same question in separate conversations: who actually owns the output, and is anyone checking whether it fits the brand?
The answer, at most organisations they spoke to, was that nobody had a clear answer — because nobody had written down a process. Visuals were being produced, used in campaigns, and later questioned by legal or brand teams who hadn't been part of the original decision.
That gap is what Obscura Mint was set up to close. Not to sell AI tools or automate the creative process out of existence, but to build a structured, reviewable service layer that lets marketing teams engage with AI-assisted imagery in a way that's documented, repeatable, and defensible.
Mission
Bringing accountability to AI-generated brand imagery
Our mission is to make it straightforward for Malaysian brands to use AI-assisted visuals without creating ambiguity around ownership, consistency, or brand standards. We do this by building a review layer into every service we offer — so there's always a human point of decision between production and publication.
We're not a large agency. We run a tight, focused studio from Mutiara Damansara, and we work with a small number of clients at any time so we can be genuinely attentive to each brand relationship.
What we stand for
- Transparency about how visuals are produced
- Clear documentation at each stage of a project
- Human judgement before anything reaches your audience
- Respect for your brand's visual identity and existing guidelines
The Team
A small studio, deliberately
We keep the team intentionally lean so the people you brief are the same people doing the work.
Rania Zahari
Founder & Visual Director
Rania oversees production direction and client review sessions. She came to Obscura Mint after eight years in brand identity work for Malaysian consumer labels.
Faizal Kamarulzaman
AI Production Lead
Faizal manages the generation pipeline and style configuration work. His background is in digital media production and he holds a degree in visual communications from UiTM.
Lim Wei Shan
Documentation & Standards
Wei Shan handles usage documentation, client guidelines documents, and the review workflow templates. She previously worked in marketing operations at an e-commerce platform.
How We Work
Standards we hold ourselves to
Internal Review Before Client Delivery
Every visual set is reviewed internally before we present it to a client. We check for style consistency, brand alignment, and anything that might raise a question in a client review session.
Written Documentation on Every Project
We produce a written summary for each engagement — covering what was produced, the parameters used, usage rights discussed, and any notes from the review session. You have a record.
Data Handling with Care
Brand briefs and visual assets shared with us are treated as confidential. We don't use client materials for portfolio work or share examples without explicit permission.
Usage Rights Discussion as Standard
We include a usage rights conversation in every service tier. This isn't an optional add-on — it's how we ensure clients know exactly what they're working with before anything is published.
Repeatable Review Workflows
For clients on the Visual Library and Programme tiers, we document a review workflow your team can use independently — so the standards we set up don't disappear when the engagement ends.
Direct Communication, No Middlemen
We don't route client communication through account managers or automated systems. The person you brief is the person doing the work, and they're the one you speak to in review sessions.
Our Expertise
AI-assisted visual services for brands who care about the details
Obscura Mint operates at the intersection of AI image production and brand standards management. Our work is not about replacing creative teams — it's about giving those teams a structured way to engage with AI-produced imagery that fits within a brand's existing visual identity.
Marketing teams in Malaysia are increasingly asked to produce more visual content across more channels with the same headcount. AI-assisted imagery is a real option, but the absence of a clear process around review and rights creates practical risks that most teams aren't equipped to manage on their own.
We address this by building the review layer into our service offering — not as a quality-check formality, but as a substantive conversation about fit, rights, and brand alignment. Clients leave each engagement with more than a set of visuals. They leave with documentation they can reference and a clearer understanding of what AI-assisted imagery can and can't do for their brand.
Our studio is based in Mutiara Damansara and works primarily with Malaysian brands, though we've supported regional campaigns for clients with offices across Southeast Asia.
